7.2.2012. Mint of Finland's 2012 Purple Programme
The year of Finnish values
On 3 February 2012, Mint of Finland launched its 2012 Purple Programme at the World Money Fair in Berlin. This year Mint of Finland will issue collector coins in honour of tolerance in the world, the national sport of Finland, as well as groundbreaking contributions to medicine.
Mint of Finland was proud to publish this year's programme for new products for coin enthusiasts in the 2012 World Money Fair in Berlin.
Recognition for art and design
Earlier this year, Mint of Finland, along with the other Euro countries, issued a new two euro commemorative coin. The year of Finnish collector coins will be opened with the Henrik Wigström and European Artists and the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 collector coins, latter of which will be available both in base metal and in gold and silver.
Henrik Wigström was a Finnish Fabergé workmaster, who led the manufacture of the most significant Fabergé pieces. The coin is Finland's contribution to the Europa Star coin set, which includes contributions from mints around Europe.
Early this year, Mint of Finland will also launch three new coin sets: "My first coins", "Congratulations to the Bride and Groom" and "Suomenlinna".
Themes this year: tolerance, ice hockey and fashion
This year's ethical collector coin "Equality and tolerance" reminds us how valuable a tolerant world is, while promoting the idea that everyone has the right for a good life.
Ice hockey is the national sport of Finland, and this year's Ice Hockey World Championships take place in Finland and Sweden. For the fans of this northern sport, this is truly a year to remember. Mint of Finland will not be far behind as it will commemorate the event with a base metal collector coin with a nominal value of five euros, and a coin set.
Early this summer, Mint of Finland will honour Finnish fashion and textile design pioneer Armi Ratia with a collector coin named after her. Ratia dedicated her life to Marimekko, which became a popular brand among fashionistas, starting with Jackie Kennedy.
The value of the later part of the year
As the leaves start to fall from the trees and the first whispers of winter winds reach Finland, Mint of Finland will issue the 2012 national two euro commemorative coin.
Additionally, the end of the year will see the launch of two coin sets, both complete collections of this year's Finnish coins: a glassy proof coin set, and a second uncirculated BU coin set which is topped of with the latest €2 commemorative coin.
The last Finnish collector coin issued in 2012 will be a silver coin commemorating Arvo Ylppö, a true pioneer of Finnish medicine.
