Hier der Bericht:
Two-baht coins to be pumped into circulation
Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the introduction of a two-baht coin to improve the country's coin circulation, said Deputy Government Spokesman Danuporn Poonakun.
Mr Danuporn said the two-baht coin would help balance the economy because it would not only fill a large gap between one-baht and five-baht coins, but also help solve the supply shortage of one-baht coins which were in heavy use. He said a private company would be contracted through a bidding contest to mint the coins.
Deputy Finance Minister Chaiyod Sasomsap said around 500-600 million baht worth of two-baht coins would be issued before the end of this year.

South Africa's first Nobel Peace Prize winner and freedom fighter Albert Luthuli was honoured by the South African Mint Company which launched the 2005 Protea Gold Coin Series featuring Luthuli on Tuesday.
Managing director of SA Mint Andile Mvinjelwa said this year they were focusing on South Africa's Nobel Peace Prize winners.
Mvinjelwa said: "Chief Luthuli was and still remains a great icon and we are honouring him in the oldest and most significant way we can.
"It is no co-incidence that we are launching this coin (at the same time as) the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Charter. The coins we are striking here are symbolic of Luthuli's role in the Freedom Charter.

Weitere Infos:
"Earlier in 2005 I first heard of and saw for sale, 5 Piastre coins of the new type shown above. The coin is a reduced size version, of the 5 Piastres 1992/1413 (KM-731), having a diameter of just 18mm as compared to the diameter of KM-731 which is 21mm. The new 5 Piastre type also has a new date 2004/1425 and the date numerals along with the rest of the legends are written a little differently than on the type KM-731. These differences are such that I would expect this new coin to be classed as a new type, not just a new sub-type of KM-731. Maybe this will be the first of several Epyptian coins to be reduced in size [...]"

"Japanese PM Koizumi to appear on coin — in Honduras
Riding high in the polls ahead of next month’s elections, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has learned his portrait will grace a coin — in Honduras.
Portraits of Koizumi, sporting his mane of hair likened to Beethoven’s and a wry smile, and Honduran President Ricardo Maduro will appear together on commemorative coins for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries.
But the Japanese leader is unlikely to go into widespread circulation. The coins will range in value between $16 and $52, major sums in the Central American nation. “The plan will go ahead no matter what the result is in the elections,” a foreign ministry official said Friday.
It is the first time Koizumi will appear on currency, she said. Japan’s yen notes all feature historical figures rather than politicians. The coins will be unveiled during a reception at the Japanese embassy in Tegucigalpa on December 6, the 72nd birthday of Emperor Akihito."
REPUBLIC OF CROATIA - EU MEMBERSHIP CANDIDATE, 18 June 2005
" LICE: "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA KANDIDAT ZA ČLANSTVO U EUROPSKOJ UNIJI 18. VI. 2005."
Unutar jezgre kovanog novca smješten je prikaz dvaju kvadrata koji simboliziraju Republiku Hrvatsku i postavljeni su jedan iznad drugog s povezanim vrhovima, a njihove rubove u dinamičnoj kretnji tvore tri linije simbolizirajući pleter, povijesnu hrvatsku ornamentiku.
Linije u desnom vrhu donjega većega kvadrata nisu spojene i simboliziraju otvorenost Republike Hrvatske prema Europskoj uniji, tvoreći ujedno prijelaz u prsten kovanog novca, unutar kojeg je postavljeno dvanaest zvjezdica, simbola Europske unije, protkanih trima linijama - hrvatskim pleterom, što iskazuje nakanu Republike Hrvatske da postane sastavni dio Europske unije. U sredini, uz donji rub, istaknut je datum "18. VI. 2005.", omeđen s lijeve strane kvadratićem, a s desne zvjezdicom.
"OBVERSE:
"REPUBLIC OF CROATIA - EU MEMBERSHIP CANDIDATE, 18 June 2005"
The central part of the coin core features two squares symbolising the Republic of Croatia, placed one above the other with touching corners. The squares' edges, shown as if in motion, are formed by three lines, modelled after the early Croatian three-strand pattern.
The loose lines in the right upper corner of the lower bigger square are a symbol Croatia's openness towards the European Union. These lines stretch over to the coin ring embossed with twelve EU stars, which are interlaced by the Early Croatian three-strand pattern, in symbol of Croatia's determination to become an integral part of the EU. Positioned along the mid part of the lower edge and bordered by a small square on the left and a small star on the right is the date, 18 June 2005. The inscription "REPUBLIC OF CROATIA - EU MEMBERSHIP CANDIDATE" continues from the date to the right, closing the circle on the coin. "
