This medal was created to commemorate the death of the Archbishop.

Obverse: Von Stein bust 3/4 right within a wreathed border. Inscription along the inside edge of the wreath reads: Dr FRANZ-JOS-v.STEIN-ERZBISCHOF v.MÜNCHEN

Reverse: Wreathed border with the inscription; ZUM-GEDÄCHTNIS SEINES TODESTAGES (In commemoration of his day of death, in left field 4./MAI/1909) Madonna stands behind putto which is holding the archbishop's hat in his right hand and the pastoral staff in his left. Two shields in foreground, left, with mountain and two stars; right, with crowned bust, left.

Not much to tell you...I use an old Nikon CoolPix 995, a copy stand, a 40w incandescent bulb in a reflector shield which has been covered with white cotton material to diffuse the light. The camera is on macro...and I shoot.

Obviously the condition of the medal has a lot to do with the final image too....and this particular piece is in wonderful condition.

Kommt dir nicht ein wenig der Gedanke auf, nur so ganz klein wenig, dass wir das falsche sammeln?

Eigentlich nicht, Raphael. Nur ist es so, dass ich schönen historischen Medaillen auch etwas abgewinnen kann. Aber so richtig sammeln, nein, auch wenn sich ab und zu mal ein Stück zu mir verirrt.

Ich kann nichts Falsches sammeln, denn wenn ich ein Stück in meine Sammlung lege, dann deshalb weil ich zum Zeitpunkt des Erwerbs interessiert war, und nur das zählt für mich. Ich lasse mich da nicht sehr von Schubladendenken leiten und habe kein Problem damit, etwas in meinen Beba-Kasten reinzulegen was zu meinen definierten Sammelgebieten eigentlich überhaupt nicht dazu passt.

Selbst Kommerzmedaillen sind da dabei. Oder, kürzlich habe ich 2 jugoslawische Dukatenstücke (1931) erworben, die waren halt günstig, mir gefallen sie und ich habe etwas über Jugoslawien erfahren. Ich weiss nocht nicht genau, wo ich sie einordne, jetzt liegen sind sie halt gerade nach Farbe sortiert...

Bei mir ist es in etwa so: 50% Sammelgebiete zu 50% Freistil. Free your mind

Ich sammle Medaillen meiner Stadt, der Grund mag die Verbundenheit sein, aber künstlerisch kommt da keines der Stücke an das oben gezeigte ran.

Freistilsammeln? Ist eigentlich nicht mein Ding, aber ich arbeite daran. Ich möchte mir schon einige ausgesuchte Stücke zulegen.

I actually collect other artists works too...granted, they are German expressionists of WWI and contemporaries of Goetz, however, they seem more artistic to me than the 'commercial' art of Goetz. Gies, Eberbach, Lindl, von Esseo, etc., are where my heart lies but they are so rare that I would spend my entire collecting period hoping for something to become available....so, I collect these artists outside of my focus area of Goetz.
