" LICE: "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA KANDIDAT ZA ČLANSTVO U EUROPSKOJ UNIJI 18. VI. 2005."
Unutar jezgre kovanog novca smješten je prikaz dvaju kvadrata koji simboliziraju Republiku Hrvatsku i postavljeni su jedan iznad drugog s povezanim vrhovima, a njihove rubove u dinamičnoj kretnji tvore tri linije simbolizirajući pleter, povijesnu hrvatsku ornamentiku.
Linije u desnom vrhu donjega većega kvadrata nisu spojene i simboliziraju otvorenost Republike Hrvatske prema Europskoj uniji, tvoreći ujedno prijelaz u prsten kovanog novca, unutar kojeg je postavljeno dvanaest zvjezdica, simbola Europske unije, protkanih trima linijama - hrvatskim pleterom, što iskazuje nakanu Republike Hrvatske da postane sastavni dio Europske unije. U sredini, uz donji rub, istaknut je datum "18. VI. 2005.", omeđen s lijeve strane kvadratićem, a s desne zvjezdicom. U nastavku datuma, s lijeve na desnu stranu ispisan je tekst "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA KANDIDAT ZA ČLANSTVO U EUROPSKOJ UNIJI", koji zatvara krug na kovanom novcu."

The central part of the coin core features two squares symbolising the Republic of Croatia, placed one above the other with touching corners. The squares' edges, shown as if in motion, are formed by three lines, modelled after the early Croatian three-strand pattern.
The loose lines in the right upper corner of the lower bigger square are a symbol Croatia's openness towards the European Union. These lines stretch over to the coin ring embossed with twelve EU stars, which are interlaced by the Early Croatian three-strand pattern, in symbol of Croatia's determination to become an integral part of the EU. Positioned along the mid part of the lower edge and bordered by a small square on the left and a small star on the right is the date, 18 June 2005. The inscription "REPUBLIC OF CROATIA - EU MEMBERSHIP CANDIDATE" continues from the date to the right, closing the circle on the coin. "
