Latvijas Banka is issuing a new 5 euro silver collector coin "My Latvia"

As of 9 March, a new 5 euro silver collector coin "My Latvia" will be on sale. Over 10 000 drawings were submitted to the children's open coin design contest which Latvijas Banka organised to honour the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia. A drawing of the Sun by Elizabete Kandere was made into the design of the coin because of its charming optimism. Moreover, the image is enhanced with a sincere birthday wish – "May Latvia live and prosper forever!".

The coin has been designed by artist Sandra Krastiņa and modelled by Jānis Strupulis.

It was struck by Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt (the Netherlands).

The maximum mintage is limited to 4 000 .

As of 9 March, starting from 8.30 a.m. it will be on sale.

The price of the coin is EUR 47.00.

Erinnert mich ein bisschen an ein heidnisches Kultobjekt unbestimmten Alters, dass im Kreuzgang des Rīgaer Doms ausgestellt ist. Gefunden wurde es von einem Bauern im Osten Lettlands naher der weißrussischen Grenze.

Witziger Weise lassen Besucher heute noch Opfergaben in Form von Münzen auf dem Kultobjekt liegen, wie auf dem Foto zu erahnen ist.

Silver collector coin dedicated to the cultural and historical regions of Latvia will be issued in autumn

This year the collector coin programme of Latvijas Banka will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The very first series of collector coins of the re-established Republic of Latvia, "75th Anniversary of the Republic of Latvia", was issued in 1993, consisting of three coins of different metals: 2 lats (Cu/Ni), 10 lats (silver) and 100 lats (gold).

To mark the anniversary of the collector coin programme, we will tell you about the different stages of creating a coin: from an idea to the design sketch, from a plaster model to the tender for mints and the minting of the coins by the best mints of Europe.

In autumn 2018 we will issue a silver collector coin dedicated to the heraldic symbols of Latvia and their history. A tender for mints has been announced. The obverse of the coin will feature the great coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia, the reverse will be decorated by four coats of arms of the cultural and historical regions. The coin will have two-colour printing on the obverse and frosting of different intensity; the issue limit: 3 000, face value: 5 euro, quality: proof, diameter: 38.61 mm, weight: 31.47 g. The coin has been designed by artist Laimonis Šēnbergs.

This coin will enhance the range of coins dedicated to the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia, i.e., the already issued coins "Gold Brooches. The Disc Fibula", "Gold Brooches. The Horseshoe Fibula", "Latgale Congress", "The First Session of LPNC", "My Latvia" and the "Gold Brooches. The Bubble Fibula" (in progress). #LV100.

Endlich noch mal ein schönes Stück aus Lettland.
Erinnert mich stilistisch an die Provinzserie aus den Jahren 2003 bis keine Ahnung.

Aufgrund der knappen Auflage von nur 2.500 Stück wird das Stück schnell ausverkauft ein. Lettland setzt also wie die anderen beiden baltischen Staaten die Ausgabepolitik mit sehr überschaubaren Auflagen fort. Das führte teils soweit, dass an den offiziellen Ausgabeschaltern bereits am Folgetag kein Stück mehr verfügbar war.

Aber auch die letzten Ausgaben mit einer Auflage von 3000 oder 4000 Exemplaren sind noch nicht alle bei den Sammlern gelandet. Es gibt noch etliche Angebote, trotz der geringen Auflagenhöhe.

Die 5€ Lettland - Honigmünze fand hier bisher keine Erwähnung. Wieso?
