The 10-euro coin from San Marino, issued in 2026, is dedicated to the tube-dwelling spider (Atypus affinis), a characteristic spider species of the European Mediterranean region. The coin is made of a copper-nickel alloy (Cu/Ni) and has a weight of 10,1 grams with a fine weight of 10,08 grams. Its diameter is 27,90 mm. The coin is issued exclusively in Brilliant uncirculated condition (BU) and only as part of a set with the two other issues of 2026.

The tube-dwelling spider is characterised by its tube-shaped structure made of spider silk, which can be located both underground and on the surface of the ground. These tubes serve the spider as shelter and hunting ground. The species is found mainly in southern and central Europe, including regions such as Italy and the territory of San Marino. It prefers dry, open landscapes and embankments with sandy or loamy soils.

The tube-dwelling spider belongs to one of the more primitive spider families. Its way of life is of particular interest to researchers, as it provides insights into the development of hunting methods in spiders. The female can reach a considerable age, in some cases more than ten years. In some areas, the species is protected because it is sensitive to habitat loss.
The tube-dwelling spider has no particular historical significance, but its ecological role as part of local biodiversity should be emphasised. The species contributes to the balance of the ecosystem by regulating numerous insects as a predator.

The coin is supplied in special packaging and is available only together with the two other coins in the 2026 series.
